The ETE Group strengthens its leadership in highly complex port operations with the arrival of the vessel SHUN FU DA at the Port of Leixões

This strategic operation highlights the company’s alignment with the Port of Leixões in accommodating new, larger vessels, and reinforces its contribution to the national metalworking industry.

The ETE Group, a national leader in port operations, has once again demonstrated its ability to manage highly complex operations by ensuring, through its subsidiary TCGL, the efficient unloading of the vessel SHUN FU DA at the Port of Leixões (APDL). This operation, carried out on 30 September, forms part of the Port of Leixões’ strategy to accommodate vessels of new dimensions, reinforcing the port’s role as a logistics hub of excellence serving the national and international economy.

Operation SHUN FU DA: efficiency and precision at the service of the value chain

The vessel SHUN FU DA, managed by ICC – Navegação, a partner of the ETE Group, carried a consignment of 3,550 tonnes of steel products, mainly steel coils, from China and Taiwan. With Belgium and Poland as its subsequent destinations, this call at Leixões stands out not only for the scale of the operation, but also for its strategic importance to the Portuguese metalworking sector.

TCGL, a company within the ETE Group, took charge of planning and executing the unloading operation, ensuring high standards of efficiency and safety. Each coil unloaded weighs between 12 and 20 tonnes, requiring specialised logistics and technical precision throughout the operation.

In turn, the arrival of this new class of vessels at the Port of Leixões opens up new opportunities to supply the national economy in a more sustainable manner.

Technical specifications of the SHUN FU DA and the importance of the Kamsarmax class

The SHUN FU DA is a Kamsarmax-type bulk carrier, 229 metres long and 32.26 metres wide. This type of vessel is notable for its balance between size and capacity, enabling it to carry large volumes of dry cargo without restrictions on access to the world’s major ports.

Direct contribution to domestic industry

The 3,550 tonnes of coils unloaded are intended to supply five domestic companies in the metalworking sector. This steel will be transformed into finished products, which will subsequently be reintroduced onto the domestic and international markets, strengthening the competitiveness of Portuguese industry and its export capacity.
