River Transport

We ensure the most efficient link between industrial sites and seaports via the river network.

More than eight decades after the ETE Group was founded, river transport stands as an example of a successful business vision with an international reach. We are a leading provider of ship loading and unloading operations, both in port and at anchor, as well as coastal transport and support services for shipyards and maritime and port construction projects.

We are the largest Portuguese and Iberian river transport operator, a true leader in specialised, diversified and integrated logistics solutions, ensuring daily connections between inland industries and seaports;

We prioritise sustainability and environmental protection by opting for river transport over road transport, thereby helping to reduce carbon emissions and minimise our impact on the environment, with particular emphasis on our operations on the River Tagus (in Portugal) and the River Uruguay (in Uruguay).

  • offshore loading and unloading;

  • river transport of containers and barges;

  • cargo transhipment;

Our fleet and equipment – barges, lighters and floating cranes – enable us to reach hard-to-access locations, carrying out river operations efficiently.

  • 5 barges, with a capacity of around 3,800 tonnes and specially equipped for the transport of bulk cargo, though they can also be used for other types of cargo;

  • 9 barges, each with a load capacity of 2,500 tonnes, suitable for general and containerised cargo;

  • 2 floating cranes, ideal for loading and unloading solid bulk or big bags, and for support operations and equipment assembly via maritime access. They have a loading rate of 500 tonnes per hour and can use a grab, hook or other lifting gear;
