Transinsular launches new service and increases maritime transport capacity to the Azores, with a new vessel and weekly frequency starting in September

The new vessel adds capacity to support the region’s significant growth, offering greater punctuality, frequency and broad coverage, with weekly calls, further strengthening Transinsular’s commitment to the population and economic agents of the Autonomous Region.

Transinsular, a company within GRUPO ETE, announces the restructuring of the regular maritime transport service for the Autonomous Region of the Azores (RAA), presenting the new “Transinsular Expresso +” service and introducing an additional motor vessel (NM), the “ETE Portugal” – dedicated exclusively to the RAA, reinforcing its aim to foster development, integrate territories and drive economic growth in Azorean communities through maritime logistics.

The new vessel “ETE Portugal”, at 100 metres in length and with a capacity of 220 TEUs, will operate on the “Transinsular Expresso +” service alongside the vessels Ilha da Madeira, Insular, Monte da Guia and Margarethe, connecting the mainland to the RAA, with weekly departures from Lisbon and Leixões.
The objective is clear: to increase the frequency of maritime transport, ensure punctuality and distribution to all islands of the archipelago, responding to a long-standing need eagerly awaited by the local population and economic agents.

The new vessel also features characteristics suited to the ports of the archipelago, equipping the Azores Regular Line, and specifically the “Transinsular Expresso +” service, with greater capacity and operational efficiency in port.

About the Transinsular Expresso + service

The new service, now provided by Transinsular, reaffirms the commitment to efficient distribution and coverage of the entire archipelago, with calls at every island as per the established schedule, thereby ensuring a continuous and efficient supply chain throughout the region.

  • Reliability and safety in the transport of cargo (containerised and general)
  • Punctuality and weekly distribution in the Azores: calls at all islands of the archipelago.
  • Weekly frequency with departures from Lisbon and Leixões, every Friday.

The Transinsular Expresso + service launches on 05 September, with departures from Leixões and Lisbon by the new vessel ETE Portugal and the vessel Monte da Guia respectively. The respective itineraries can be consulted from 27 August via the company’s official channels – www.transinsular.pt.

Sustainable Growth and Operational Efficiency

Beyond the operational aspect, this new service and the addition of another vessel aim to meet the interests of clients, entrepreneurs and economic agents in the Azores, with an anticipated 15% increase in the capacity to respond to the basic and essential needs of the population, further consolidating Transinsular’s presence as the region’s strategic partner of excellence.
The vessel “ETE Portugal” is part of a growth strategy based on the expansion and renewal of Transinsular’s fleet in the medium term, demonstrating its commitment to the sustainable development of the maritime transport and logistics sector.

This investment is yet another demonstration of Transinsular’s decisive role in maintaining the maritime link with the Azores, strengthening proximity, trust and the region’s economic and social development, with a sustainable vision for future generations.
