The Government, Port of Lisbon and local authorities welcomed the project during its presentation ceremony.

“The Government values all infrastructures linked to exports, aware that this is a cornerstone of the Portuguese economy. The development of ports is an absolute national priority,” stated Hugo Espírito Santo, Secretary of State for Infrastructure.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

This infrastructure promotes river transport as an alternative to road, enabling the removal of a significant number of lorries from Lisbon’s road access routes. In numbers, each barge can carry up to a hundred times more containers than a lorry in each journey, and up to four barges will be able to operate simultaneously. This is a unique contribution to reducing the carbon footprint, and to optimising the safety and economic efficiency of transport.

Approximately 85% of the goods handled at the Port of Lisbon originate from or are destined for north of the River Tagus, which means that the Castanheira do Ribatejo River Terminal is an environmentally friendly logistics solution, offering greater operational efficiency and enabling cost reductions for carriers.

INFRASTRUCTURE AND ACTIVITY

The terminal will feature an area of 2 hectares, including a berthing quay with access ramps, an electric crane and port equipment suited to operations. It will also have a yard with capacity for 300 containers and the possibility of providing ship repair and maintenance services on site.

In its initial phase, river movement is expected to exceed 2,500 tonnes of cargo per day, with volumes between 20,000 and 70,000 TEU per year. It is estimated that, with terminal expansion, movement could reach 200,000 TEU per year.

A STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP

The Castanheira Port Company (CPC), Ltd, the company responsible for building and managing the new river terminal, results from a strategic partnership between the ETE Group — with more than 89 years’ experience in the maritime, port and river sector — and the Pousadinha Group, a local economic operator and owner of the land now occupied by the new terminal. Its privileged location, on the north bank of the Tagus, 55 km from Lisbon and close to the logistics platforms of Lisbon North, Carregado and Azambuja, ensures strategic and rapid access by road and also by rail, complementing the river operation to which the new terminal will be dedicated.

“The new river quay broadens multimodality in Greater Lisbon, reduces road traffic and carbon emissions in the logistics system, and reinforces Castanheira do Ribatejo’s importance as an area of metropolitan economic development. Today we begin a new phase of work with the Government, which is aware of the importance of this municipal strategy for the entire region,” says Fernando Ferreira, Mayor of Vila Franca de Xira.

“With this project, the ETE Group and Pousadinha Group strengthen their commitment to creating economic, social and environmental value, contributing to a more modern, sustainable and competitive port sector, as well as to the development of the Castanheira do Ribatejo region. The Castanheira do Ribatejo River Terminal represents a forward-looking solution for national logistics, uniting Portugal and adding value to its regions. A national solution with regional identity,” highlight Luís Figueiredo, Grupo ETE’s Chairman, Pedro Vigouroux and João Folque, Board Members of Pousadinha Group.

GRUPO ETE and Pousadinha Group Present New “Castanheira do Ribatejo River Terminal” The new infrastructure powered by Grupo ETE will remove between 100 and 400 lorries from the city of…

[1

0":"post-6845","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-sem-categoria
["GET
