Named in honour of that archipelago, the new ship “Ilha da Madeira” is another strong investment by the ETE Group in the region, demonstrating its commitment to the Madeiran community. The new vessel arrived last night, February 5th, at the Port of Caniçal, Madeira.

With a national flag and crew, the new ship represents one of the largest investments made by the company in the last 5 years, when it renewed its container fleet. An investment designed to fully meet the characteristics of operations on the island of Madeira and address the real needs of the local community. The ship Ilha da Madeira, with a length of 127 metres and a deadweight of 8,450 tons, is equipped with two cranes with more than 45 tonnes capacity and can reach a maximum speed of 16 knots. It can transport more than 710 TEUS (of which 100 are reefers). These characteristics allow it to operate at the appropriate speed and with great efficiency in port, providing the Madeira Expresso operation with greater service capacity. According to Matthieu Roger, CEO of Transinsular, the acquisition of the ship “Ilha da Madeira” is another fundamental step in the consolidation of the company’s and the ETE Group’s operations, which are of great importance to island communities. We are committed to these populations and economic agents, and the acquisition of this new ship is a symbol of that commitment and a sign of Transinsular’s closeness to the Madeiran community and that we remain attentive to satisfying their real needs.” He also recalls that “the fact that it is a Portuguese ship, with a Portuguese crew, also shows that we are investing in the development of Portugal, in qualified professionals in the sector, promoting the creation of jobs in the country.” The new vessel “Ilha da Madeira” now joins Transinsular’ s fleet, which consists of the Monte Brasil, Monte da Guia, Ponta do Sol, Insular, and São Jorge vessels, which have been regularly providing services to the Autonomous Regions of Madeira and the Azores for over 40 years.

With this acquisition, Grupo ETE reinforces its commitment to the regular freight transport service in the region, through a commitment to the company’s ability to meet the island’s needs.

Download here

Transinsular, a company of Grupo ETE, has just reinforced its fleet with a new ship, thus emphasising the regular supply service provided to the Autonomous Region of Madeira (RAM).
